Screen Resolution
Set your monitor settings to either 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 prior to running the SOFTIMAGE|XSI EXP. Different screen resolution settings will result in unexpected behavior. If you experience problems with the layout of XSI, simply quit the program , adjust your screen resolution and restart XSI.
Redhat version 8.0
Although this version of Redhat has not yet been certified, if you do decide to run XSI on Redhat version 8.0, you must install this package prior to installing XSI. http://www.redhat.com/swr/i386/compat-db-3.3.11-2.i386.html
Dual Monitor Support
The XSI EXP will run on dual monitors in the Linux OS. However, you may have a warning message popup upon starting XSI on a dual monitor system. Simply dismiss this message, and begin using XSI ? your layout has not been affected. We recommend that you consult the Known Limitations page for the latest information on using the XSI EXP on the Linux platform. http://www.softimage.com/products/exp/v3/details_limitations/
Directory Installation
Upon extracting the download tar file on LINUX, you will notice that an XSI-EXP_3.0 directory is created. Please make sure you do NOT install XSI in this same directory as this will cause installation problems.
Hardware Acceleration
If XSI doesn't start on your LINUX box, it may be related to hardware acceleration not being set properly. To fix this you need to install the proper drivers. You can find the info you need here. http://www.softimage.com/partners/xsi/Hardware_Partners/Hardware_Cert/linux.htm#v3
