Sí, se podría contactar con Autodesk para tantear la posibilidad de que pongan Softimage a la venta a partir de 2016.
Después se podría anunciar en Kickstarter para hacer un crowdfunding para adquirirlo por la comunidad y tras la compra, hacerlo open source
No creo que lo vendieran por más de los 300 millones por los que lo compraron

Autod€$k lo compró a Avid, por $35 millones. Es Avid quien pagó a Micro$oft unos $384 millones. Eso sí, si Autod€$k lo pusiese en venta, sería alguna burrada como la venta que hizo en su día M$.

Gorka, gracias por recolectar varios mensajes from Japan.

Es impresionante el apoyo masivo que ha tenido la petición, y me imagino la cantidad de usuarios que deben de existir en Japón que por culpa de esto perderán hasta sus trabajos, siendo japón uno de los que más usaba Softimage para juegos. Cambiar de software de la noche a la mañana es imposible; no se puede. Quizás esos 2 años sirvan para algunos como transición, pero veo muy difícil que se deje de usuarlo.

Sumatra, tu no idea no es mala, y aunque sea algo descabellada, puede funcionar solo si existe mayoría.
Por ejemplo, si esa petición online llegase a 10.000, estoy seguro que a cualquier compañía le abriría el ojo; o los propios AutoShit no dejarían ir a los usuarios a otros programas, y prefieran mantenernos cerca, liberando Softimage haciéndolo Open Source.
